A Walk Down Memory Lane
A Celebration of Life through Word and Song: A Time to Treasure Compassion, Humility, and Hope through our memories from the past that we cherish and the song that played in our heads.
September
This September was highly emotional for me as I find my way through grief and seek a new beginning. It has also been a month of blessings from God, and for that I am thankful.
September this year seemed to come so fast; I hardly remember summer. September seemed more noticeable than I had ever noticed before. It was a month that offered a blend of melancholy and beauty as we celebrated the first signs of autumn, marked by crisp air and fading memories wrapped in falling leaves, symbolizing both warmth and the quiet wisdom of completion and transformation.
As summer fades, with the chill of the morning breeze, and in its silence, we reminisce about the warm weather, shorts, flip-flops, and all the joy that summer brought us.
As summer officially comes to a close, the crowds of tourists and vacationers typically disperse, leaving tourist towns quiet, and some become ghost towns. Tourist towns in areas like New England “roll up the carpet” by experiencing a significant drop in visitors, resulting in shorter hours, seasonal business closures, and a shift from summer-focused activities to fall attractions, such as autumn foliage tours.
A change in the local atmosphere often accompanies this seasonal decline as towns transition to their off-season. However, some may still draw visitors for fall-specific events or scenery, or for the warmer weather. Florida is invaded by Snowbirds when the cold weather approaches their cold-weather states.
People return to work and school, and life resumes its routine. September is a reminder that cold weather is approaching soon, and we gather firewood and begin preparations for the chilly months ahead.
We start looking forward to sitting around a warm fire with a warm blanket and family, sipping on hot chocolate or a cup of coffee with cookies hot out of the oven.
I see the leaves already beginning to cover my driveway, and the sun rises a little slower each day, and it says goodbye earlier than we would like as winter approaches.
This year, I find myself frequently reminiscing about days of old, when time passed more slowly, especially in your twenties, and before you know it, you’re seventy.
In the song below, there is a verse that says, “Of all the things I still remember
Summer’s never looked the same
The years go by, and time seems to fly
But the memories remain.
Not only do our memories remain, but they also continue to bless us just as they did when we lived and loved them. When we think of those times, our minds drift back to yesterday, and we find ourselves in the midst of a memory that has left a lasting mark on our lives. We play our song that represents that time, and suddenly, we are there.
I hope you all enjoyed the beauty of transformation that September brings. If you are like me, you grabbed your sweater and a hot cup of coffee, pulled up a chair on the porch, and remembered the joy of days past that put a smile on your face, and I hope you sang your song to the top of your lungs.
It is my wish that others would share their favorite memories and the songs that remind them of that time.
My September song:
Chris Daughtry - September

I love your writings which reminds me of growing up in a large family and all of the simplicity of small pleasures. My mother was the matriarch of 13 children. Our home was filled with love, home cooked meals, every weekend. I am the youngest of six children and I am the only survivor but memories of my life was a blessing filled with love. Thank you for reminding me!
Love the song 🎶 🙏🙏🙏😎😎😎but boy those years go by fast. I’ll be 74 in February and it really feels like I’m talking about someone else because I sure don’t feel it😉
